How is TaleSprout Different?

Talesprout was inspired by a letter home that no parent wants to get – “…your child is falling behind in reading…”

As a parent, you know that the only way for your child to become a better reader is – ironically – to read more. So you break out all the same books that you have had for forever, force your little one to sit down and read with you, and what do they do? They get distracted, start squirming, come up with excuses to take a break (“…but I have to go to the bathroom!”). Why? Because it’s no fun to do something that you aren’t good at. And so the cycle continues – they don’t like to read because they aren’t good at it (yet), so they fight you at reading time and don’t focus, so they don’t get the quality reps required to get better.

All of the phonics work and technical reading programs aren’t going to help your child if they don’t genuinely enjoy the process enough to give you their full attention.

That’s where TaleSprout comes in.

TaleSprout lives at the intersection of “fun” and “educational.” It keeps your child’s attention and gets them excited about getting the reps they need to become a better reader.

What kind of story will grab your child’s interest and keep it? The story that they create.

We know what you’re thinking – how does a child that is struggling to read write their own story?

This is where the TaleSprout technology comes in. You and your little one are 5 simple steps away from your first custom story created by them.

Step 1: Pick a Topic – This could be anything. Anything at all. If they can imagine it, we can put it into a story. A mouse that can run faster than a cheetah? Done. A dragon that can’t breathe fire? Easy.

Step 2: Add Your Character(s) – Again – nothing is off limits here. We have found that kids LOVE to be the main characters in their own stories. Throw in a family pet. Maybe they want a custom story about their favorite cartoon or YouTube heros. Do they want a story about how Optimus Prime shows up to their birthday party? Make it happen. Add as many or as few characters as you want.

Step 3: Pick Your Reading Level – Nothing is less engaging than a story that is too hard to reading along with. That’s why we let you pick a reading level from K-6th grade to create a story that meets your child where their current abilities are.

Step 4: Pick a Length – Short story before bedtime? Longer story to get some extra time together? Totally up to you.

Step 5: Vocab Words – Add any special vocab words or “sight words” that you’d like. This step is optional, but one of our most popular features with teachers. Have a few vocab words that you want your child to start identifying in writing? List them here and we’ll insert them into your story seamlessly (with the proper context) and bold and underline them for your child. Magic.

That’s it! Hit the “go” button watch your story come to life with a beautiful illustration all in about 20 seconds.

Maybe you’ve gotten this far and you’re thinking – “but my child is a great reader…” GREAT! They will love creating their own stories and their passion for reading will only continue to grow.

Your TaleSprout membership comes with unlimited stories for the price of a single kids book. Which is a good thing, because your kid will be begging for more stories once they experience the magic for themselves.
